Mobile Learning Frameworks
On the following infographic, we have outlined four frameworks that a teacher could use in order to effectively leverage mobile learning in the classroom, while still maintaining a curriculum and learning focus:
On the following infographic, we have outlined four frameworks that a teacher could use in order to effectively leverage mobile learning in the classroom, while still maintaining a curriculum and learning focus:
EIEIO Framework
All four of the above frameworks had many good points. We decided to create one of our own based on the best of all four. The EIEIO Framework asks the teacher questions based on each of the following topics: Engage, Intentional, Ethics, Instruction, and Outcomes.
E - Engage
I - Intentional/Intentioned
E - Ethics
I - Instruction
O - Outcomes
All four of the above frameworks had many good points. We decided to create one of our own based on the best of all four. The EIEIO Framework asks the teacher questions based on each of the following topics: Engage, Intentional, Ethics, Instruction, and Outcomes.
E - Engage
- Does the technology allow students to focus on the assignment/activity with less distraction?
- Does the technology motivate students to start the learning process?
- Does the technology cause a shift in the behaviour of the students where they move from passive to active learners?
I - Intentional/Intentioned
- Does the technology allow students to demonstrate their understanding of content that they could not do traditionally?
- Is your lesson/activity/assignment curriculum-focused?
- Does the use of technology enhance the learning outcomes?
E - Ethics
- Are there steps taken to protect students’ privacy?
- Is digital citizenship and appropriate behaviour reinforced?
- Is there equitable access to technology for all learners?
I - Instruction
- Does the technology create scaffolds to make it easier to understand concepts or ideas?
- Does the technology meet the needs of the specific learners in your classroom?
- Is the technology accessible/usable in your situation/learning environment?
- Does the technology create a bridge between school learning and everyday life experiences?
O - Outcomes
- Does the technology tool aid students to develop a more sophisticated understanding of the content?
- Do the students have an awareness and understanding of the success criteria?
- Can the students demonstrate the learning goal (based on the curriculum)?
- Does the technology allow students to build grit skills that they can use in their everyday lives?
